Dr. DePaola established a summer enrichment program in Plainedge for students in grades K through 8 to promote continuous learning during the summer months. This engaging program offers a variety of activities, including STEAM projects, arts and crafts, and reading workshops, designed to spark curiosity and creativity. By providing a fun and supportive environment, the program helps students build skills, make new friends, and avoid summer learning loss, ensuring they return to school ready and excited to learn.

Dr. DePaola has been instrumental in bringing cutting-edge drones and robotics opportunities to Plainedge students. Through the introduction of Tello EDU drones, students are able to explore the world of flight, coding, and applied technology in an engaging, hands-on way that connects classroom learning to real-world innovation. At the same time, Dr. DePaola has strengthened robotics pathways by supporting the launch of a FIRST LEGO League team at the middle school and advancing the work of FIRST Robotics Team 527 at the high school. These programs give students the chance to design, build, and compete while developing critical skills in teamwork, leadership, and creative problem-solving. By championing drones and robotics, Dr. DePaola has opened doors for students to discover passions that can shape their future careers.

Dr. DePaola has also prioritized strengthening the home-school connection by launching engaging social media campaigns that highlight the incredible learning experiences happening across Plainedge. Through dynamic posts, families gain a window into classrooms, events, and student achievements, fostering a stronger sense of community and pride. These campaigns celebrate student success, spotlight innovative programs, and keep families informed and connected in real time. By leveraging the power of social media, Dr. DePaola has created a platform that bridges school and home, ensuring families feel included, valued, and actively engaged in their child’s educational journey.

Dr. DePaola launched the STARS Morning and Afternoon Enrichment Academies to provide Plainedge families with a safe, supportive, and enriching environment for students in grades K–8 beyond the traditional school day. Supervised by highly qualified staff, including certified teachers, the program offers a wide variety of daily activities designed to inspire and engage. From arts and crafts, literacy activities, and homework help to study centers, makerspace stations, and age-appropriate recreation, STARS gives students opportunities to learn, create, and grow in a caring setting. By introducing STARS, Dr. DePaola expanded access to meaningful enrichment before and after school, meeting the needs of both students and families.

Dr. DePaola has made college and career readiness a central priority, ensuring that Plainedge students are prepared with the knowledge, skills, and experiences needed for future success. She brought the NYS Seal of Civic Readiness to the district, providing students with the opportunity to demonstrate civic knowledge, engagement, and responsibility—key skills for both higher education and life beyond school. In addition, Dr. DePaola established a Computer Science Task Force to guide the implementation of NYS K–12 Computer Science & Digital Fluency standards, ensuring that every student gains exposure to coding, computational thinking, and digital literacy. These initiatives not only strengthen academic pathways but also prepare students to thrive in an increasingly complex, technology-driven world. Through her vision, Dr. DePaola has expanded opportunities that connect learning today to the demands of tomorrow.
